The Franciscan friar Engelbert Kolland was born on the 21st of September 1827 in the village of Ramsau in the Ziller valley. After joining the Franciscan order in Salzburg, he was ordained a priest at the Trento Cathedral. Another important stage in his life began when he was sent to Jerusalem as a missionary. From there, he was transferred to Damascus, where he worked as a pastor in the church of the Holy Sepulchre. He died a martyr on the 10th of July 1860, after he refused to renounce his faith in Jesus Christ. He was beatified in 1926 by Pope Pius XI. Apart from the Granatkapelle chapel, Engelbert Kollard is the patron of the parish of Zell am Ziller, the branch church of Ramsau, the parish church of Ramsau, the Belgier-Kaserne soldier's church in Graz, and the Franciscan church of Salzburg.
